APRNEWS : George Weah and Joseph Boakai face run-off vote Published

APRNEWS - Mr Weah got 43.83% of the vote and Mr Boakai, a former vice-president, received 43.44%.

The 10 October poll was the tightest presidential contest in Liberia since a civil war ended about two decades ago.

A run-off was predicted, but Mr Boakai, 78, has done better than expected by coming close to Mr Weah's tally.

APRNEWS - The NEC has however, released partial provisional results from two counties – Bomi and Montserrado placing the opposition Unity Party (UP) in a fragile lead.

NEC Chairperson Davidetta Browne Lansanah said at a press conference late Wednesday that the results from Bomi County are from 13 out of 171 polling centers constituting 7.60 percent of the total vote cast.

APRNEWS - Recall that in 2019, Pew Research Centre’s surveys conducted between 2008 and 2017 revealed Nigeria as the most prayerful country

Meanwhile, the likes of China (1%), UK (6%), Switzerland (8%), Austria (8%), Czechoslovakia (9%), Germany (9%), Estonia (9%) France (10%) and Denmark (10%) are the least prayerful.

APRNEWS : Four officers arrested in Burkina Faso after thwarted coup attempt, prosecutor says

APRNEWS - Two other officers were “on the run,” according to a statement from the public prosecutor’s office at the military court in Ouagadougou, the capital city.

Burkina Faso’s military junta said in an earlier statement that intelligence and security services had foiled a “proven coup attempt” on Wednesday.

“A number of officers and other alleged actors involved in this destabilization attempt have been arrested, while others are being actively sought,” the statement said.
