APRNEWS : Liberia’s leader Weah is facing a tight runoff vote for a second term against challenger Boakai

APRNEWS - The former international soccer star easily defeated Joseph Boakai in the 2017 runoff, but results from the first round of balloting last month showed the two neck and neck. Weah took 43.83% while Boakai brought in 43.44% of the total.

“We are going to an election where nobody has a competitive edge with a wide margin,” said Ibrahim Nyei, executive director at the Ducor Institute for Social and Economic Research.

APRNEWS: Raphael Dwamena - Ghana striker dies aged 28 after on-pitch collapse

APRNEWS - Dwamena was playing for Egnatia against Partizani on Saturday.

"Despite the immediate intervention of specialist doctors he unfortunately passed away," said the Albanian Football Federation (AFL).

Dwamena was the leading scorer in the Albanian league this season with nine goals. He had won nine caps and scored two goals for his country.

APRNEWS : Thieves put gun to Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga's head

APRNEWS - Sindisiwe Chikunga told a parliamentary committee that one of the masked attackers pointed a gun at her head during the ordeal early on Monday.

They stole some laptops, a phone and her bodyguards' weapons, she said. 

South Africa has long faced high crime levels, including car-hijackings, kidnappings and smash-and-grabs.

APRNEWS : Moussa Dadis Camara - Guinea ex-ruler taken by armed men back in jail

APRNEWS - The group stormed a jail in the capital, Conakry, early on Saturday morning - taking Capt Camara and three others. 

Those taken are currently on trial for their alleged roles in deaths of more than 150 people in a 2009 protest. 

Besides Capt Camara, two other prisoners have also been found. 

It is unclear if they were kidnapped or freed by their supporters.

APRNEWS - Finally, the eight months legal battle for the presidency of Nigeria has come to an end, with President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, emerging victorious.

The Supreme Court, yesterday, agreed with the September 6 verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, on all counts.
